Emma gets new hearing aids

We thought Emma's hearing aids were broken because she wasn't hearing very well. So we ordered some new pink hearing aids and went to Omaha to have them fitted. The hearing aids look super cute and she can hear better. Unfortunately, we had to go back for a CT scan and other tests to find out why her hearing got worse. She now is deaf in many frequencies in the left ear and profound loss in the other frequencies. The right ear is a moderate loss in some frequencies but a severe loss in most. The CT showed she has a rare sensory neural disorder called Large Vestibular Aquiduct Syndrome. She also has cochlear dysplasia, and sudden deafness occurs with this disorder. We are very sad for her, but so thankful that she was born with hearing and has been able to hear and learn speech for this many years. It has made us all so thankful for the gift of hearing. Emma is thankful too.

I'm sad for Emma too. It would be hard to have that worry in the back of your mind at all times.

But she is strong (she IS related to you, right?) and I know you and Chris (with the help of God) will help her through this.

I miss you all!
Your twinkie ;)
